Role:

Provides the Organization with expertise and recommendations to guide the development of respiratory therapy activities and the selection of respiratory therapy equipment and supplies for the Company's subsidiaries. Acting as a consultant for clinical and medical staff, he/she is responsible for researching and introducing best practices in respiratory care.  Participates in planning and priority setting relative to respiratory therapy, working with Company leadership, to establish/refine evidence-based protocols, policies and procedures for the care of patients receiving complex respiratory therapies.  Performs assessment, diagnostic evaluation, and education of patients with pulmonary dysfunction.  Recommends patient treatment options to medical and nursing staff to promote optimum cardiopulmonary function and symptom control. 

 

Qualifications:

  • Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) issued by the Florida Department of Health, Division of Medical Quality Assurance
  • At least, 1 year of respiratory therapy experience in an acute care setting; prefer multiple years working in both hospital and home health
  • Working knowledge of home respiratory equipment and medical supplies including, but not limited to: ventilators, BIPAP, CPAP, liquid oxygen, suction, oxygen concentrators, nebulizer therapy
  • Professional attitude with good leadership skills
  • Strong critical thinking skills and in depth knowledge of underlying pathophysiology
  • Ability to work unsupervised in the field, exercising discretion and independent judgment
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills: ability to problem solve with staff, while maintaining excellent working relationships
  • Able to communicate clearly in English (written and verbal); bilingual ability is preferred
  • Valid driver's license and automobile insurance per Company policy
  • Reliable transportation to meet visit schedule
  • Ability to use equipment with visual and auditory mechanisms
  • Flexible schedule to meet the needs of patients and their families
  • Ability to physically access any home (i.e., navigate stairs and narrow spaces, tolerate heat and lack of air conditioning) in any area the Company serves

  • Conduct advanced respiratory evaluation of patients, including subjective and objective assessment and diagnostic testing.
  • Determine the need for utilization of respiratory equipment and supplies including, but not limited to: BIPAP, CPAP, liquid oxygen, oxygen concentrators, nebulizers, oral & intermittent suction, continuous pulse oximetry, ventilators; initiate and monitor use of equipment and supplies.
  • Assess the patient's residence to ensure an environment of care conducive to the proper delivery of the required respiratory services and care.
  • Recommend and assist in the development of applicable patient/family education materials.
  • Make recommendations for respiratory treatments and care based on patient assessment and own professional expertise.
  • Participate in discharge planning/complex patient conferences for patients requiring sophisticated respiratory therapies.
  • Evaluate treatment effectiveness, patient compliance and safety issues, and recommend changes, as indicated.
  • Provide routine follow-up and monitoring, as required.Administrative:

  • Provide input into policies, procedures and processes related to respiratory treatments and interventions.
  • Collaborate with other health care professionals to establish/revise care protocols.
  • Research and introduce information of current information relative to care of patients with pulmonary disease.Education:

  • Provide patient/caregiver education to include, but not limited to: respiratory equipment use and maintenance, respiratory medications and treatments, energy conservation, home safety and oxygen safety.
  • Develop educational materials and presentations for nursing/medical staff on complex respiratory equipment and treatments.Documentation:

  • Prepare and maintain required documentation for each assigned patient.
  • Complete documentation in a timely manner and distribute to the appropriate parties.Communication:
  •  
  • Collaborate with supervisor, medical staff, and IDG regarding patient treatment, medical condition, and home environment to ensure continuity of care.
  • Express thoughts and ideas clearly and in a timely manner.
  • Adapt communication style to fit audience.
  • Maintain positive work relations with staff members.
