Role:

Oversees the day to day accounting functions for all HPC entities including monthly closing, financial statement preparation and analysis, and other special projects related to financial management. Responsible for the timeliness, accuracy, outcomes, and reporting of these functions. Supervises, directs, and trains personnel involved in detailed accounting entries and internal/external financial reporting.

 

Qualifications:

  • BS/BA degree in Accounting.
  • CPA or Masters in Accounting or Business Administration preferred. Will accept additional years of experience in lieu of this requirement.
  • Minimum of 7+ years accounting experience preferably in a multi-entity setting. Two or more years of public accounting auditing experience is preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory/management experience.
  • Strong management skills including motivating and mentoring people at all levels, training both Finance staff and organizational managers, establishing departmental policies and procedures and managing human resource issues of staff supervised.
  • Customer services skills, interpersonal skills, ability to work independently, ability to work with a team, critical thinking, organizational skills, and knowledge of regulatory requirements appropriate for the position.
  • Solid understanding and application of GAAP.
  • Ability to draft/evaluate intra-departmental policies and procedures for appropriateness and from an internal controls perspective.
  • Must be able to maintain a strict level of confidentiality.
  • Experience with process improvements is preferred.
  • Proficient in the advanced use of Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and complex financial systems.
  • Must have strong communication skills in verbal, written and presentational form.
  • Ability to take initiative, work with little supervision, and solve problems independently.
  • Proficient in time management skills with the ability to prioritize a variety of duties.
  • Team player and self-starter who is accurate and detail oriented.
  • Knowledge and competency in accounting and analysis.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provides accurate and timely financial statements for all HPC entities to the Director of Accounting and management.
  • Provides management with support and guidance with respect to financial results and variance analysis per deadlines.
  • Coordinates annual audit and assists the Director of Accounting in the preparation of annual audited financial statements, as needed.
  • Reviews and maintains the general ledger system for accuracy and compliance with reporting standards.
  • Reviews the preparation of the reconciliation and roll forward of records pertinent to the general ledger.
  • Resolves or escalates financial or accounting issues and ensures resolutions meet all GAAP/compliance standards.
  • Performs special projects as requested by the Director of Accounting.
  • Directs daily activities of direct reports and communicates organizational information, goals and policies to the accounting staff directly reporting to the position.
  • Assists in the preparation of and maintenance of operating and capital budgets for all HPC entities.
  • Reviews monthly operating reports and evaluates and assists in explaining variances with the departments.
  • Provides leadership for Accounting staff. Serves as an advocate for employees by eliminating barriers, assisting employees in their personal development and acts as a liaison between Accounting and other departments.
  • Holds periodic meetings with staff to review timelines, assignments and results.
  • Works as a team player within the department and organization. Works with other directors and managers to help meet and achieve organization and department goals.
  • Remains current in accounting and healthcare industry knowledge.
  • Ensures that departmental procedures and hospice policies are followed.
  • Participates in meetings and committees as required.
  • Demonstrates and maintains computer system competency.
  • Communicates effectively with internal/external customers.
  • Maintains an appropriate professional image as specified by department and hospice policy.
  • Performs work in a safe and efficient manner following all department and hospice safety standards.
  • Attends training programs to include in-service lectures and seminars as requested.
  • Performs work as scheduled and maintains acceptable attendance record.
  • Performs work and interacts with fellow employees, patients and visitors in a caring and courteous manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Accounting.
